Pick Gemini when the work already lives in Google

You will pick Gemini when the job is already sitting in Google—Drive, Gmail, Docs, or Sheets—or when one prompt needs a photo or a PDF plus writing, and you will know when to open ChatGPT or Claude instead.

The short answer

For a dental office, med spa, HVAC shop, or other local service business, Gemini usually wins when the work is already in Google. The side panel in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive can draft from files you can already open. Gemini Apps can take a photo, a screenshot, or an uploaded file in the same prompt as the writing job. Some answers in Gemini Apps are tied to Google Search and may show sources. A source link is a lead. You still open it.

ChatGPT usually wins when one assistant has to cover mixed formats and a wide set of connected apps in a single sitting. Claude usually wins when a long document has to stay careful for months.

When Gemini usually wins

Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub says some responses are grounded on Search results. It does not say every answer was checked, and it does not say a grounded answer is correct. Gemini Apps Help shows a Sources button only when links were provided. If there is no source, treat the line as unverified.

When ChatGPT usually wins instead

• Several formats in one sitting: outline, table, short captions, and an image draft
• Connected apps outside the Google stack that you already use in ChatGPT
• A reusable custom GPT on a workspace that can create one

Do not invent a price contest

Plan prices change. This page does not quote dollars. Read Google’s Gemini subscriptions page, Google AI plans, Google Workspace pricing, OpenAI’s pricing, and Anthropic’s pricing for the accounts you would actually buy. Compare seats and admin needs. A remembered screenshot is not a budget.

2. If the file is already in Google, or the input is a photo plus text, open Gemini.
3. If you need mixed formats and apps outside Google, open ChatGPT.
4. If many people will follow the writing for months, open Claude.
5. Run the same facts and [NEED] rule in whichever tool you opened.
6. Keep a one-line team note: “Drive and Gmail drafts → Gemini; caption brainstorms → ChatGPT; SOPs → Claude.”
