You will use Canvas in Gemini Apps to build a simple checklist, quote helper, or mini worksheet—without writing an application—and you will still verify every number before the floor trusts it.

What Canvas is

Google’s help, Create docs, apps, and more with Canvas, says you collaborate with Gemini in Canvas to create or edit a doc, app, slides, or code. On a computer, go to gemini.google.com, choose Canvas under the prompt box, describe what you want, and submit. You can edit the text yourself. Changes are auto-saved. Share & export can send text to a new Google Doc.

In owner language: Gemini builds a working draft beside the chat. You click through it.

That job is the cousin of Claude Artifacts and ChatGPT Canvas and custom GPTs. The button in Gemini Apps is Canvas.

If your IT team uses Gemini Enterprise, that product has a separate Canvas with its own admin switch. A local shop should use the Canvas in the Gemini product they actually open, and confirm it is available on their plan.

Good first jobs

• Opening or closing checklist the front desk can tick
• Quote worksheet with blank cells labeled [NEED APPROVED RATE]
• A simple job tracker (requested → quoted → scheduled → done) with no customer secrets stored in it
• A short training quiz from an SOP you already checked

What Canvas is not

• Not your scheduling system or your books
• Not correct because the screen looks finished
• Not a place for card numbers, health details, or passwords
• Not done until someone who does the job clicks every path

The Gemini Apps Privacy Hub says that when you use a Canvas app someone else made, the creator can see data you share, and anyone with the public link may view and edit data saved with that app. For a shop worksheet, keep it internal. Do not put customer secrets in a Canvas app you might share by link.

Try this job: one quote worksheet

Goal: A sheet staff can fill before a proposal goes out.

1. Open Gemini Apps. If you already saved a Quotes Gem, start there — Gems guide.
2. Turn on Canvas. Prompt: “Build a residential service quote worksheet: customer basics, scope checklist, labor and materials lines, exclusions, next ask. Do not invent prices. Leave price cells blank or labeled [NEED APPROVED RATE].”
3. Click through it as if you were quoting a real job. Note confusing labels.
4. Ask Canvas to fix only those labels. Keep blanks for anything that must come from the rate sheet.
5. Export to Google Docs, or copy the structure into the Sheet your team already uses.
6. Have one estimator check it against a past job you already sent.

Human verification checklist

• Every default number matches an approved rate, or the cell is blank
• Exclusions match the policy you already use
• No “standard discount” you did not write
• Readable on a phone in a truck
• A version date on the sheet
