Gemini vendor compare

Gemini for research and vendor comparisons

Some Gemini Apps responses are grounded on Search. Sources are not always shown, and Workspace help says a cited source can be wrong or invented. Verify on primary pages.

What you will be able to do

You will use Gemini as a structured research assistant for vendor comparison, with an explicit rule that Search grounding and cited sources are unverified until you open the primary page.

What grounding actually states

Gemini Apps Privacy Hub: some responses are grounded on Search results. Not all responses. Grounding is not a correctness claim.

Gemini Apps sources: the Sources control exists only when links were returned.

Workspace sources: web search is off by default; Gemini may omit a source it used, cite a document that did not support the sentence, or fabricate a source. Absence of the fact on the opened page means the fact is unsupported.

Gemini’s job vs your job

Gemini can structure criteria, enumerate failure modes, and argue against the current leader.

Prices, contract terms, and feature claims stay with you. Output is a draft brief.

Same decision-brief shape as hire versus tool, Claude research, and ChatGPT research. Select Gemini when Search-linked leads or Drive files are the useful input. Verification is identical.

Try this job: a vendor compare you can finish

Goal: Retain or replace a supplier.

  1. One-line decision question.
  2. Hard constraints, with any budget labeled as your estimate.
  3. Facts copied from current vendor pages or quotes, each dated.
  4. Prompt for a brief: at most three options, criteria, risks, [NEED] unknowns, recommend-or-kill. Forbid invented prices and features. Require a URL beside any Search-borrowed fact.
  5. Adversarial pass: five bullets against the leader.
  6. Open every URL and quote the same day. Unsupported prices return to [NEED].
  7. Decide in-session or schedule the decision within two days.

Prompts worth keeping

  • “What fails in busy season if we take the leading option?”
  • “Which stated constraints did you drop?”
  • “Extract every price or feature not present in my facts and rewrite them as [NEED].”

Where this is weak

  • Intraday promotional pricing
  • Contractual fine print
  • Regulated professional advice
  • Unconstrained “best of” questions

The privacy hub says not to rely on Gemini Apps for professional advice. The matrix does not decide.

Short close

Gemini structures the compare. Primary sources, opened the same day, authorize the facts.

Keep these

The working rules

Research workflow with partial Search grounding, mandatory URL checks, and a [NEED] rewrite for any claim absent from user-supplied facts. Workspace web search is off unless enabled.
