What follows is a decision guide by features and seat shape, not by invented numbers.

Free — try the habit

Fit when: one owner is testing whether Claude helps real jobs (email drafts, SOP outlines, short research briefs).

Typical shape: chat on web/mobile, Artifacts, limited Projects (confirm current Free Project cap in help/pricing), lower usage than paid plans.

Weak when: several people need the same workspace, you hit usage walls mid-week, or you need org admin controls.

Pro — everyday individual work

Fit when: one person (or separate personal seats) uses Claude as a daily writing and thinking partner: Projects, higher usage, more models/features than Free.

Typical shape: individual subscription; more usage; Projects and other productivity features listed on the current Pro card.

Weak when: you need shared Projects with permissions, central billing for a crew, or org-level connector controls.

Team — a small shop with shared work

Fit when: two or more people should share Projects, use central billing/admin, and keep work under the organization’s account rather than a pile of personal logins.

Typical shape (confirm live): seats for a team band, project sharing/collaboration, SSO and admin features that personal plans do not center on, commercial data defaults that differ from consumer plans — see data safety.

Weak when: you are still alone testing one job a week—Team is overhead until people actually share work.

Enterprise — when admin and compliance depth matter

If you need deeper admin, retention controls, or offerings Anthropic lists only on Enterprise (for example items shown on the current Enterprise comparison such as advanced audit or HIPAA-ready options), read the Enterprise column on the pricing page and talk to Anthropic or counsel. Listing a vendor option is not the same as your practice being covered. Do not claim compliance you have not contracted and verified.

Decision path for a local service business

1. Alone, testing one recurring job → start Free; move to Pro when usage or Projects become the bottleneck.
2. One heavy daily user, no shared workspace yet → Pro.
3. Two+ people sharing quote/SOP projects and you want one bill + admin → Team.
4. Regulated data, strict retention, or enterprise IT requirements → evaluate Enterprise on the live page with your advisor—not from a blog memory.
